Tesla recalls the least amount vehicles of any other automaker in 2022, while Ford and GM recalls were in the millions.
Unlike Ford and GM, Tesla corrects their so-called vehicle recalls with an over-the-air software update, so their Tesla Model 3, Tesla Model Y, Tesla Model X and Tesla Model S vehicles don’t have to go in for service.
“About 99% of all Tesla recalls in 2022 have involved software over the air updates, according to NHTSA xxdata. Tesla has only recalled about 31,000 vehicles for non-software related issues. That 31,000 Tesla figure equates to about 2% of all Tesla vehicles on U.S. roads. The recalls-to-cars ratio for the entire U.S. industry is 150% higher, at 5%, based on NHTSA data. Ford and GM recalled the most vehicles in 2022.”
Compared to Tesla, Ford and GM recalled a great deal more vehicles in 2022. Ford Motor Company led all automakers with the most recall alerts in 2022. Ford notified owners to bring their vehicles in for an urgent safety repair 67 times last year. All told, 8,636,265 Ford built vehicles got a recall notice and GM had 3,371,302 vehicles recalled.

Tesla Software-related recalls haven’t mattered all that much to Tesla because the cost to Tesla is very limited due to its over-the-air fixes. The cost of fixing in service recalls can reach into the billions of dollars, which is the case for Ford and GM.
